    What the R&D spending presentation does not reveal is the number of disappearing companies (as a result of M&A activity). While the the aggregate R&D spending of the “Top 10” companies is impressive, overall industry R&D spending has, I suspect, now grown by the same percentage as that of the “Top 10” in large measure because of the disappearance of so many companies.
